What Will Happen At My Checkup?

According to the American Dental Association, routine dental checkups are essential for maintaining healthy smiles. We agree and encourage our patients to see us regularly for an exam. In today’s blog, we’re going to look at what happens during your dental checkup!

Using Advanced Technology

We will use digital x-rays to carefully examine the smile for signs of cavities, misalignment, and issues related to the jaw joints that might not be noticed right away. The x-rays use 80% less radiation and can provide instant, detailed images that the dentist can share with the patient chairside. The exam also includes a check for tooth decay, gum disease, gingivitis, or oral sores. With an intraoral camera, the dentist can gather digital images of a tooth and provide a more accurate diagnosis. We will also screen for oral cancer once a year.

You Should See Us Twice a Year

We typically recommend a patient see us twice a year, once every six months. In doing so, we can often catch a potential problem in the earliest possible stages, treating it before the patient experiences discomfort or requires more extensive procedures. If a patient has a high risk of developing gum disease, we may suggest a visit once every three to four months. These simple visits can help you enjoy a healthier (and more beautiful) smile.

Dental Cleanings

During the visit we will also provide a dental cleaning. The cleaning involves removing all plaque and tartar from the teeth using either a manual tool or an ultrasonic scaler. Removing plaque helps reduce the risk of tooth decay, gingivitis, and gum disease. The procedure also helps brighten the teeth and address bad breath. If you haven’t had a checkup or cleaning recently and want to schedule an appointment, please give us a call today. We’re ready to help you maintain optimal oral health and avoid the onset of serious oral health problems.
