- True. Dental anxiety can prevent a patient from seeing the dentist for even minor preventive care, which increases the risks of tooth decay, infection, gum disease, and even adult tooth loss. We don’t want a fear of the dentist due to never going or having a bad experience in the past prevent you from maintaining optimal oral health. - True. Also known as laughing gas, we administer this through a mask over the nose. The gas is breathed in and allows the patient to enter a relaxed and calm state. The patient will have little to no memory of the procedure and the effects wear off almost immediately. Many patients return to work or school afterward!
- True. Oral sedation is for more serious cases of anxiety or helping those with a gag reflex. A pill is taken prior to the procedure. The patient enters a deeper state of relaxation. The patient will feel a little groggy afterward, so we suggest arranging for a friend or family member to provide a ride home. The patient will again have no memory of the procedure. We also suggest avoiding a large meal in the six to eight hours prior to the procedure.
