Minimal Discomfort Root Canals Can Save Your Tooth
Root canal therapy is an important procedure that can save an infected tooth. The treatment can also alleviate the often severe discomfort of infection. Our dentists have a very gentle touch, so your treatment will involve minimal discomfort. We are happy to provide dental sedation if you need it, but, like most patients, you may be surprised to find that local anesthesia is enough to keep you calm and comfortable.
Why Perform a Root Canal?
If you have a dental infection, bacteria has affected the soft pulp inside your tooth. The bacteria can then spread from the inside of your tooth down through your roots and dental nerves. This can cause immense discomfort, gum abscesses, bad breath, and several other symptoms. Without treatment, these side effects will worsen. The bacteria can also impact more of your tooth, and you may eventually require a tooth extraction. In many cases, root canal therapy is the most effective way to stop the spread of bacteria, end your discomfort, and save the healthy part of your tooth.
What Happens During Root Canal Therapy?
To perform a root canal, Dr. Hoang or Dr. Tran will numb your tooth and gums. Then your dentist will clean all bacteria and infected pulp from your tooth. After filling your tooth with a soft rubber compound, he or she will complete the procedure by placing a custom-made crown over it. Though you may experience some sensitivity immediately after treatment, you will typically enjoy full dental function within a few days.
