Restore Your Smile with Custom-Made, Tooth-Shaped Crowns
At Gentle Smiles, our lifelike dental crowns can perform many different functions. These individually fabricated restorations will be crafted to match your natural teeth. Dr. Hoang or Dr. Tran will attach the crown directly to your damaged tooth using a conservative technique. Thanks to their meticulous care, your treatment will involve minimal discomfort.
Why Place a Crown?
The uses of dental crowns include:
- Treating a cavity that is too large for a filling
- Fortifying a weakened tooth
- Holding a cracked tooth together
- Restoring a tooth after root canal therapy
- Enhancing a worn tooth
- Correcting an irregularly shaped tooth
- Improving a tooth with severe aesthetic flaws
The Creation and Placement of Dental Crowns
Before recommending a crown, Dr. Tran or Dr. Hoang will use digital X-rays and our intraoral camera to determine the right treatment for you. If your dentist decides that a crown is the optimal solution, he or she will carefully reshape your tooth and take impressions. Using these impressions, an experienced lab technician will create a tooth-shaped crown to match your other teeth. Your restoration can be made from several different types of material. We often recommend porcelain for the most lifelike appearance. However, we can also provide metal or porcelain-fused-to-metal restorations. While you are waiting for your crown, your dentist will usually supply a temporary restoration. When the final crown is finished, he or she will check the fit and attach it to your tooth.
When Is a Crown the Most Appropriate Treatment?
If you have a small or moderately sized cavity, they will typically recommend a filling, rather than a crown. However, if you have sustained more extensive damage, a carefully crafted and lifelike crown can be a great solution.
