You Should Schedule A Checkup Visit

When was the last time you visited a dentist for a dental exam? We agree with the American Dental Association (ADA) that a checkup is necessary every six months to protect your smile. In today’s blog, your Dallas, TX, dentist talks about what to expect from your dental exam and cleaning visit.

The Need for a Dental Exam

A dental exam enables us to safeguard your smile, for you and for all members of your family too. We want to see you every six months as serious issues that threaten your teeth and gums don’t form overnight, so chicaning in every few months enables us to catch them early, sometimes before you even experience discomfort. For kids, this is also a chance to help them better understand their smiles and the importance of routine care at home and in the office. As they become accustomed to the dentist, they become less likely to develop dental anxiety and more likely to continue caring their smiles in adulthood.

The Checkup Process

To make a diagnosis with precision and accuracy, our team will employ advanced imaging technology, including digital x-rays and intraoral cameras. With these systems, we can take a close look at the surfaces of your teeth and gums, and at the structures invisible to the naked eye, such as the roots and jawbone. We then identify problems quickly and can create a treatment plan to address them. Our team can also screen for oral cancer for adults, as the earlier a diagnosis, the greater the chances of a full recovery. In the same visit, we will first protect your smile with a dental cleaning.

Cleaning Your Teeth

The clearing allows us to remove all of the plaque and tartar that brushing and flossing alone cannot do. Removing this bacterial buildup can help lower the risk of enamel erosion and tooth decay, and fight gingivitis and gum disease too. You also enjoy fresh breath and few teeth stains. We will use an ultrasonic scaling device and a manual tool to gently and thoroughly break up and remove the buildup. We then polish the teeth to make it more difficult for plaque and tartar to adhere to the surfaces before your next cleaning appointment. This also brightens your teeth too!

If you have any questions about how our team will conduct a detailed dental exam and cleaning, or if you would like to schedule a visit for you or a member of your family, then contact our team today to learn more.
