Do I Qualify For Dental Implants?

For those with minor or advanced tooth loss, implant dentistry offers a secure and lifelike solution. But how do our Dallas, TX, patients know if they qualify for dental implants? In today’s blog, we’re looking at how we address tooth loss and who makes a good candidate for dental implants.

Dental Implant Candidacy

First, we need to make sure you have enough jawbone tissue to support them. After we lose teeth, we also lose jawbone density as the body stops sending key nutrients to the jawbone around missing teeth. If you don’t have enough tissue to support a new tooth, then you may need a bone grafting procedure. We also watch for gum disease. The advanced stage of the disease, known as periodontitis, could cause the dental implants to fail. We will need to manage the disease and make sure you’re free of periodontitis before moving forward.

Placement and Maintenance

We will work with an oral surgeon to insert the dental implant into the jawbone. Osseointegration will then occur, bonding the new tooth with the jawbone like a natural tooth root. After the area heals, we move forward with the restoration. The restoration is a custom-made dental crown designed to address the visible portion of your new tooth. After we complete the new tooth, you will need to care for it as you would a natural one. Brushing twice a day and flossing nightly, along with routine checkups and cleaning, help ensure your smile stays healthy and strong (and that your brand-new tooth lasts for decades).

The Benefits of Implant Dentistry

First, placement stimulates the growth of jawbone tissue, preserving your facial structure. The new tooth lasts for decades, much longer than bridges or removable dentures. We can use them to address a single lost tooth or support a custom-made bridge or denture. Finally, they look natural and blend with your smile seamlessly.
