Helping Our Anxious Patients With Sedation

When you feel very nervous about visiting the dentist. This could be due to dental anxiety. We don’t want these very real phobias to stand between you and the smile you deserve. Which is why your Dallas, TX, dentist offers dental sedation options to help nervous patients feel comfortable and enjoy a positive treatment experience!

When You Need a Calming Solution

Do you have anxiety about visiting the dentist? Or do you or a member of your family have special needs that make undergoing care a difficult process? With dental sedation, our team can help you enter a calm and relaxed state, with little to no memory of the procedure, so you can receive the care you need to enjoy optimal oral health. We don’t want your very real anxiety standing between you and the smile you deserve, and would love to talk to you about possible options. In addition to helping those with dental phobias, we can use these calming solutions to also make undergoing more extensive treatments, such as tooth extraction or dental implant placement, a more comfortable process.

Choosing the Right Sedation for You

First, we need to choose which option is right for you. Our team takes your anxiety levels into account, as well as the treatments we will be providing. We also look at your age, weight, and medical and dental history too. Our team has been trained in the administration of sedation and will monitor you through the process to ensure your health and safety. We follow the strictest guidelines and procedures!

Our Treatment Options

We have two different options to choose from. The most common is nitrous oxide, also known as laughing gas. The gas is odorless and safe for all ages, from kids to adults. We administer this through a mask of your nose. When you inhale, you enter a calm state, with a little euphoria. We can adjust the administer throughout the process, and the effects wear off immediately once the procedure ends. In fact, you may be able to drive yourself home and patients could even return to work or school afterward.

Oral conscious sedation is taken via pill or liquid form prior to the procedure, and you enter a much deeper state of calm. You will be able to respond to the dentist as needed, but will have no memory of the procedure. The effects take time to wear off and you may be a little groggy afterward, so be sure to have a friend or family member on hand to bring you home. You may suggest avoiding foods or drinks in the hours before the procedure, and encourage you to wear comfortable and loose fitting clothing.
