What Sedation Options Do You Offer?

Dental sedation allows our team to ensure the comfort of our Dallas, TX, patients when they undergo treatment. In addition, they also help those with severe dental anxiety. In today’s blog, we’re going to look at the different options we offer to help patients enter a calm and relaxed state, and when you may benefit from this option.

Dental Anxiety

Studies show that between 8% and 15% of people in the United State suffer from some kind of dental anxiety. This fear could make undergoing even the most routine procedures difficult and allow minor oral health concerns to become something very serious, threatening the stability of the teeth in some cases. With dental sedation, we help people enter a calm and relaxed state before treatment, which helps them receive the care they need with little to no memory of the treatment process afterward. We can help adults and children alike with anxiety and other issues that make receiving care difficult.

Nitrous Oxide

Nitrous oxide, also referred to as laughing gas, is the most common dental sedatives. We administer a gas through a mask over the nose. The patient enters a calm and relaxed state, with no memory of the procedure afterward, but remains conscious and able to respond to the dentist. Once we complete treatment, the effects of the gas wear off almost immediately. In some cases, people can return to work or school and may even drive themselves. We may suggest this option for kids and adults alike.

Oral Sedation

Oral conscious sedation helps people who require more substantial forms of calming. We administer a pill in the morning before the procedure, or possibly the night prior. Patients enter a deep state of relaxation, with little to no memory of the treatment afterward. Patients will still be conscious however, and able to respond to the dentist. The effects will take time to wear off, so arrange for a friend or family member to drive you home and avoid operating vehicles or heavy machinery until the grogginess wears off completely. If you have any questions about sedation, or if you think a calming solution could help you or a family member undergo the treatment needed to enjoy a healthy smile, then contact our team today for more details. We would love to help you and your family enjoy bright, beautiful smiles you can feel proud to show the world!
