What Do You Look For During A Checkup?

We agree with the American Dental Association: People of all ages need routine checkups. We offer dental exams for our Dallas, TX, patient to help them enjoy healthy smiles and avoid the onset of tooth decay. What happens during your routine checkup?

Examining Your Smile

The checkup involves carefully examining your teeth, gums, jaw joints, and oral tissues for possible signs of trouble. We may implement advanced technology, such as digital x-rays, to obtain detailed images of your smile. We then look for indicators of common oral health issues, such as:

  • Tooth decay and infection
  • Gingivitis and gum disease
  • TMJ disorder and bruxism
  • Oral cancer

We then offer treatment to address the problems before they grow more severe and lead to serious complications, such as tooth loss.

Signs of Trouble

What are signs you should see the dentist outside of your routine checkup visits? You may need to see us should you encounter tooth sensitivity, toothaches, and jaw pain that don’t subside after 48 hours. These aches could be a sign of cavities. You should also contact us should your gums feel sore, look red, or bleed when your brush and floss. Selling of the gums or near the teeth, or gum recession, could be a sign as well.

When Should You See Us?

How often should our patients have their teeth examined? We suggest a visit every six months. However, if you have high risk factors for periodontal issues, we may suggest one every three to four months. Patients of all ages benefit from these visits, including children as young as age three. Remember, by scheduling a visit now you can use you 2018 dental insurance benefits or flex spending accounts funds before they expire in December. If you have any questions about our visits, or if you and your family are ready for a preventive visit, then contact our team today.
