Is Restorative Dentistry Really Necessary?

Have you been experiencing increased tooth sensitivity recently, particularly when you try to enjoy your meals? What about pain when you try to sip a hot cup of coffee, or bite into an ice cream cone? If so, you may feel tempted to ignore it, or to simply hope that it will go away on its own, in time. Unfortunately, most dental issues are only likely to get worse if left unaddressed. That’s because the teeth are strong, but they don’t have regenerative properties the way some parts of the body do. The longer you delay a restorative visit, then, the more likely the issue is to progress to the point of requiring extensive treatment or even an extraction. If you want to avoid the need for extensive restorative measures, it’s important to see your dentist at the first sign of trouble, rather than waiting, hoping it will simply go away on its own.

Don’t Ignore Those Signs of Decay or Other Dental Problems

What are the warning signs of potential dental problems, like cavities? Moderate to severe tooth sensitivity is one. But you might also notice:

  • Deep discoloration of your teeth, or eve the appearance of white patches on the surface of some of your teeth; these could indicate that the tooth’s enamel has already been compromised
  • Discomfort, especially when trying to enjoy hot or cold foods or beverages; this can be the result of the layer beneath the enamel, called the dentin, becoming exposed. It is more sensitive than the tooth’s protective outer layer
  • Chronic bad breath or even dry mouth can also be symptoms of dental problems; bad breath is often caused by infection of either a tooth or the gums, while chronic dry mouth can end up creating a host of oral health problems

Enjoy Increased Comfort with a Natural-looking Restoration

If you are diagnosed with a dental problem, ask your restorative dentist about the modern restorations available that can help to address the issue beautifully, including porcelain crowns and tooth-colored dental fillings.
