A Quiz: Root Canal Terms

When it comes to showing up for your root canal therapy, do you already feel thoroughly informed about what’s going to happen? Are you completely relaxed about the visit because you have already chosen a sedation option for a deeply peaceful experience? These are all good things. Now – how familiar are you with root canal terminology? Do you have a general understanding of the procedure or are you, in fact, quite the expert? Just for fun, find out (and potentially learn a bit more) with a quiz.

Root Canal Terminology Quiz: True or False?

  1. True or False: When we talk about removing your dental pulp during root canal therapy to save your tooth, we are talking about the soft tissue that lines the inside of your tooth and your roots.
  2. True or False: Gutta percha is a cement like substance that we will use to fill the entire body of your tooth after we remove the pulp.
  3. True or False: When we say we are going to finish the treatment by placing a dental crown, we are simply referring to a natural-looking, hollow tooth crafted of artificial material like porcelain.

Quiz Answers

  1. True. Pulp lines the body and roots of your tooth, providing it with all of its essentials to remain living (such as oxygen and nutrients). We remove damaged pulp because it cannot heal.
  2. False. Gutta percha has a quality similar to that of rubber. This is the material we will use to seal the roots of your teeth, preventing future invasion by bacteria.
  3. True. After your root canal therapy is complete and your tooth is sealed, we may place a crown on top of it – an artificial tooth – for protection and to restore the beauty and function of that tooth.
