Debunking Dental Filling Myths

Think back to the days on the playground as a child when one of your friends would suddenly start filling your mind with a long list of false rumors about something happening in your life. You would run home, where your mom or dad would debunk every last rumor, so you could clear your head of the scary myths. Unfortunately, we often find that this type of exchange still happens – even to adults! If you have accumulated negative ideas regarding restorations, we would like to take this time to debunk common myths about dental fillings. You will find that treatment is actually an effective solution that you can feel good about choosing for your smile.

Myths and Facts: Dental Fillings

Myth: No matter what, your tooth is going to look damaged after you receive a dental filling.

Fact: We offer tooth-colored fillings, so your tooth can return to the way it looked before your cavity developed. We use composite, a synthetic acrylic-resin substance, that we will color-match to your tooth before placing it.

Myth: Dental fillings are uncomfortable but they are worth it.

Fact: The filling procedure itself is comfortable. We will numb your tooth tissue and the surrounding area before we begin. In addition, removing decay and filling your tooth will result in regained comfort.

Myth: You cannot receive sedation for a filling – you will simply need to rely on local anesthetic.

Fact: We offer sedation on a case-by-case basis. Dental fillings may qualify as a reason for sedation. If you suffer from severe anxiety or if you are nervous about your filling, please speak with us about your options for a tranquil visit.
