Routine dental care typically comes in the form of regular dental checkup and cleaning appointments, which you should attend at least once every six months, at the least. During a checkup and cleaning, we will thoroughly clean away traces of plaque that your toothbrush and floss may have missed, as well as deposits of tartar (calcified plaque) that have been allowed to develop. Periodically removing these films from your teeth and oral tissues reduces your risks of a dental health issue associated with the bacteria hidden in plaque and tartar. We can also make sure that your home hygiene is working by carefully inspecting for signs of tooth decay, gum disease, or other oral diseases, like oral cancer.
If we detect an issue during your regular checkup, then the next step will be accurately diagnosing the condition and discussing appropriate treatments. If your issues are merely cosmetic, such as stained and/or chipped teeth, then we can recommend a conservative, non-invasive enhancement, such as teeth whitening or cosmetic tooth bonding. For more serious issues, like tooth infection, significant tooth damage, or malocclusion (crooked teeth), we may have to suggest a more complex restorative procedure, such as root canal therapy or dental crown placement.
