Whether you have a one year old or a pre-teen, we have treatment options to help kids in Dallas, TX, enjoy healthier and more attractive smiles. With treatments to avoid cavities and gingivitis, or prevent the onset of oral health problems, we can safeguard smile of all ages. In today’s blog, let’s take a look at the care children need from their first visit to their regular six-month visits.
A routine visit every six months allows our team to monitor the smile as your child grows and changes. We can identify changes, such as developing misalignment and the warning signs of tooth decay, so we can administer treatment in the early stages before more extensive solutions will be required. We can also discuss better homecare habits and snaking choices to help instill good oral hygiene habits. During the same visit, we will also clean the teeth, a procedure that only takes a few minutes and helps remove all plaque and tartar from the teeth, limiting the risk of cavities and gum disease. Children also maintain brighter teeth and fresher breath with routine dental cleanings too!
To help protect the teeth from cavities, we have two very different preventive treatment options. The first is a fluoride varnish we apply to the teeth in a thin layer. The varnish helps strengthen outer tooth enamel to reduce the risk of erosion and cavities. We can apply the layer during routine checkup and cleaning visits. Since the rear teeth are often difficult for kids to reach when they brush and floss, we can place a thin layer of acrylic over them. A dental sealant prevents food from becoming stuck between these hard-to-reach teeth, limiting the chances for decay to form and lowering the severity of plaque buildup. The sealants will wear away with time and we can always reapply them if needed.
When should your child see us for the first time? We suggest an initial visit and soon as the first baby tooth arrives. The initial visit usually involves no treatment, instead we just want to meet your child and make sure the teeth are erupting as they should. We can then begin routine exam and cleaning visits to watch over your little one’s smile. If you have any question about our approach to children’s dentistry, or if you want to schedule a visit for you or a member of your family, then contact our team today.
