Dentist-Approved Treats for Halloween

Are your kids already getting excited about Halloween fun, namely the many doors they’ll knock on for tricks, or treats? As a parent, are you feeling less than excited about the prospect of them binging on sugary treats, much less handing them out, yourself, at either your home or a Halloween bash? This year, why not stick to family dentist-approved alternatives to sugary treats, that way both you and your kids can smile about the fun items you’ll be handing out, knowing you won’t be putting their smiles in jeopardy?

What Are Healthy Alternatives to Traditional Candy?

If you are hoping to give out something edible, or even a drink, this year, but don’t want to opt for sugar-filled candies, consider these smile-friendly alternatives:

  • All-natural fruit snacks with no added sugar, or better yet, individual portions of applesauce are a great alternative. Avoid anything too sticky, as it can contribute to dental problems.
  • You could also give out single packs of crackers, pretzels or chewy granola bars. Just look for low sugar, low salt varieties!
  • Even water can be a welcome treat, for thirsty trick or treaters after a long night of scavenging.

Don’t Forget About Other fun Options

Just remember, nothing says a Halloween treat has to be a food item, at all! In fact, if you want to help protect kids from cavities requiring restorative treatment, why not consider fun alternatives, like:

  • Small games, puzzles and toys are great additions to kids’ Halloween loot, and many will long last after their candy binges are done.
  • Bubbles, temporary tattoos, and stickers are other great options!
  • Or look for light up jewelry, which can actually help Trick-or-Treaters stay safe!
