Tips: Avoiding The Need For Restorative Care

Have you been wondering if there’s some magical way to protect your teeth that you have been overlooking? After all, you brush your teeth twice a day – you even floss every day! You visit us once every six months for your preventive checkup and cleaning. Shouldn’t this mean your teeth remain in excellent condition? Unfortunately, while these aspects of prevention help you avoid tooth decay and restorative care like fillings, they don’t protect you from all types of potential physical damage. Do yourself a favor – consider some tips that will help you keep your teeth in one piece.

Tip #1: Get Rid Of The Culprit

Do you have a piercing in or around your mouth? If the piercing has never caused a problem then good – you’re in luck. However, if you have suffered a common side effect, such as a chipped tooth, irritated gum tissue, or otherwise, it’s time to say goodbye to the piercing. Unfortunately, even if you’ve never experienced any problems to speak of yet, potential damage lies on the horizon, which will result in a need for restorative care.

Tip #2: Skip That Super-Hard Snacking

What’s your snack of choice? Are you spending your time between meals snacking on ice? Maybe you love rock-hard biscotti or other extremely hard foods. Whatever the case, these items can actually cause your teeth to break or crack. We suggest avoiding anything that might cause serious damage and a need for restorative care like dental crowns. Instead, seek out softer foods that don’t offer so much resistance.

Tip #3: Treat Your Bruxism

All the brushing, cleanings, and checkups cannot help you with bruxism. Bruxism is the habitual grinding or clenching of your teeth. It may lead to eroded tooth surfaces, fractured or broken teeth, and even tooth loss. What you need is bruxism treatment, so we can prevent damage. Visit us for preventive care, before restorative care becomes necessary to rebuild your smile.
